splitting 50gr pack
splitting 50gr pack
Our local homebrew club have a 500gr of WHC saturated yeast that we plan to split into 25gr packs and vacuum seal them. I am aware that dried yeast can deteriorate once opened so does anyone have any suggestions on how I proceed

Re: splitting 50gr pack
How long do you intent to keep it?
I use the 500g packs all the time (for bread & wine) and properly packed it keeps really well.
Buy good thick vac bags.
Work quickly, spoon don't pour.
Keep it in the fridge.
I have not split it down as small as 25g.

ISTR that Barnsley brewer bought a 500grm pack of Nottingham and repacked it in vac packs successfully ? , perhaps he will spot this thread and confirm .

Re: splitting 50gr pack
Years ago when S-189 first came on the market it was only available in 500 gram packs. Several home brew shops repackaged it into 11 grams and sold them. I used one and had no issues.
I'm just here for the beer.

The Norwich home brew guys have split 500g packs before, they can probably advise when they spot this.
Re: splitting 50gr pack
Good to know this as I was a bit concerned about when I break the seal that the yeast may begin to deteriorate quickly. It wont be hanging around with our club lads though.
