Strawberry Wine ^_^

that means paying postage + packaging (probably £5.99) for a 99p packet of yeast huh
thats a bummer, although hop and grape in Darlington do mail order and they are reasonably priced too

Liking the sound of that Bobquick tip on yeasts, buy 1 sachet of a really good sachet of yeast Lalvin 71B-1122(99p), make a yeast starter with it and then use only half of it in your batch, add more sugar to the starter, and away you go again, over and over again, only for year though, then you need to start a new starter

That sounds like a plan, mine came out really well looks good and tastes ok, you now syphon stops and re sucks and get a little.... ^_^Vossy1 wrote:Just started a strawberry wine tonight, we'll have to compare notes SZ![]()
T**cos had reduced there pound packs of strawberries to 10p each![]()
They also reduced their 6 x peaches to 10p so I've got one of those on the go too
If you fancy do a small bud sized bottle and i'll pay P&P and i'll give it a try. ^_^, would be good to get a share thing going on here. ^_^, a few people have liked my kit brews but to the pro's on here would be wkd to see waht people think. ^_^
Got any piccys or how you made it to compare. ^_^
I didn't do any photo's cause I noticed you had started a topic on it, so I thought I'd just chip in, if that's o.k
Do have one pic which I'll edit in in a minute.
Today we racked our wines (except Peach Perfection) into their demijons.
Blackberry and Eldeberry instructions said fill the dj's to the shoulders and top up after initial vigorous fermentation has subsided....the strawberry didn't
Mrs V1, I think we'll get away with it, it says fill to 4.5 ltrs....

What's on the sink is from the sides of the dj, most of the rest is in the carpet under the stairs

Well i used 3 KG split but not sure if it was 1.5 in each DJ as when i blended the whole 3KG i decided to split it...
But i might try some more but concentrating on plum wine... gona make another 10gallon batch up tomorow...
Well today I picked up tinned strawberries to do the recipe as per lokwood recipe . What is the difference between having to boil the water or using cold? Have you got to add anything different from the hot to the cold? Do you sterilise everything that you use to make the wine - i.e. masher, funnels, spoons, buckets? Do you treat water with campden tablet to rid chlorine?
Well between boiled and cold is that when you boil the water you are steralizing it, what i do is keep laods of 2 litres bottles of water, soi used ditilled water...DRB wrote:Well today I picked up tinned strawberries to do the recipe as per lokwood recipe .
