Post by ashbyp » Sun Aug 03, 2008 11:13 am

So i just managed to burn the inside bottom of my stockpot, guess U didn't stir the LME properly.

It's black and definitely not coming off with elbow grease. It's soaking in bruclens right now, but any ideas how to clean it up ?

Cheers!

boiling kettle of water, 100gms citric acid, soak.

failing that, try cillit bang or oven cleaner.

Is it stain less steel or aluminium(sp.)? For a stainless steel one I'd use costic soda, I use it to clean the oven tops in my kitchen at work, brings them out like new after a 24 hour soak.

For removing food that had 'caught' on the bottom of saucepans, my grandmother used to boil washing powder until whatever was burnt on came off. I've done this with a stainless steel saucepan and it worked a treat.

Please note that if you try this & it ruins your stockpot I only mentioned 'saucepans', not 'stockpots'

The oven cleaner pretty much did the trick. Thanks!

It's designed to remove burnt on carbon, so i would hope so!

Make sure you give it a bloody good rinse, bleach, and rinse again!
Don't want any residue of oven cleaner in there. It would at least taste foul, or destroy the head of your beers.
