Seems that they also include litre marks now on the Brewtech pots, I've only ever seen gallons on the photos 8) Shame it doesn't go all the way down though.

Very nice, yeah I have the 15 gallon pot and it only has gallons from 8 upwards. I installed a sight glass on it to help me keep track better. It is a really good pot.

Doesn't look as daft as I thought it would sat on top of the induction plate:

One thing I didn't consider though is that my immersion chiller now won't hang low enough to touch the wort in the kettle for a normal 23litre batch - not the end of the world, I'll just have to sanitise it by hand then transfer the hot wort to the FV and chill it in there instead I guess.

Yeah, I emailed most of the major suppliers to find out which were induction compatible:

Brupak from brewuk - YES
Angel homebrew - NO
Powell Brewing - NO RESPONSE
The Malt Miller "normal" pots - NO
The Malt Miller SS BrewTech - YES (obviously :P)
Home Brew Builder High End - YES (so I'm told, didn't verify myself)

If the Bottom is 304 Grade Stainless I would have thought it would'nt be very good from what i've been reading

I'm not saying 304 is a bad grade of stainless because its not, its got great corrosion properties but it is a high Nickle one and its the nickle in stainless steel that reduces its magnetism

I believe some pots have multi layered bottoms and are good on induction plates because theres a magnetic layer in there somewhere

They say try a magnet on the pots if it sticks well then should be good on induction plate, 304Grade is only very slightly magnetic so im not so sure it will work very well on the induction heater

Try boiling some water in it id be interested in how long it takes

I understand you can get something to put under non compatable cookware, probably only a disc of steel then this would produce the heat that then conducts into the pan

Yeah, their site specifically says its triclad for excellent induction performance.. One of the reasons I went for it in the end.

Really a low hassle way to get heat, intrested to know how long they take to get a descent boil going

This is what i use see my video below. The key to it is insulation in the pot for faster ramp times.Obviously with no naked flames this can be what you like but foil backed camping mats work fine. And make sure the lid is insulated.

I am actually having the opposite problem - I've insulated my pot with Thermawrap and the hob keeps cutting out - I've spoken to the supplier and he said that the insulated pot, combined with it touching the outer metal casing because of the size of the pot, results in the unit overheating and shutting down.

Bit of a pain in the backside to be honest - I'm wondering whether I can put some thermawrap on the exposed metal parts of the hob and still have the pot detected as present. Failing that I'll have to take the insulation off, or run it at a reduced capacity.

I cant see how having the pot insulated has a effect as i would say less chance to overheat as time to get up to temp will be less.

But possibly the wrap touching the metal part has a effect.
I would say cut a strip from the bottom just above bottom of the tap so no thermawrap is touching.

I used a silver backed camping mat and had 33ltrs up to mash in in under 30mins.

I also know the chap that uses these hobs on another forun with 100ltr pots so the size of the pot isnt a issue.

I was told make sure good air supply around the unit but other than the possibilty of the thermawrap being the issue
Maybe the unit itself is at fault for overheating.

Trouble us supplier would say its your fault as your not sticking to what they reccomend for usage.

Dont let em fob you off if the thermawrap is not the issue

I know of another brewer who had the same issue with the plate cutting in and out. Nesbits swapped it and the new one is good so there is a precedent. I would contact them.

There's no wrap touching the metal on the hob, just the pot itself, which gets hotter with the insulation on and overheats the hob.

I might try and set it up in the kitchen this afternoon and see if I can get it to do it with less water in - then at least I can move the pot and see the error code it is showing on the display.
